Pre-meeting Exercise

Lake Michigan is only about a 15-minute walk from the Cenacle. We hope that several of us can arrive early and wander to the lakefront and observe the preciousness of the Lake, the use and misuse of the Lake, how it adds a real human dimension to a large urban area, and anything else that draws your intention. How do you and god encounter each other with the water and the people you observe? No need to process intellectually, just return to the Cenacle and write your observations on the flip charts that will be provided.

Friday Evening
Opening Session
This session will SET THE CONTEXT. It will be a look at our graced history, both the lightness and the darkness, within the context of the Universe Story. We are co-creating with God in our specific place and time. Water is a symbol of the flow of salvation history, like a river constantly flowing towards its destination, working around obstacles, but always following its particular journey.

This session will include an opening prayer ritual which will include the combining of waters from the home areas of the participants. Each participant is requested to bring water from a natural source if possible (i.e. lake, river, ocean) from somewhere near their home. We also ask that the water be boiled and filtered before bringing to the conference so we don't bring un welcome organisms with us.

After prayer we will review together our sacred history of what brought us to this point, followed by quiet reflection on what gifts am I bringing to this gathering and this endeavor. The evening will close with an Examen and Social.

WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
After Opening Prayer the National Communities will share how they felt the Spirit calling them to respond to the signs of our times in the areas of formation and collaboration on water.

We will open ourselves as individuals, national communities, and a regional community to formulate concrete responses to these areas and develop ways of collaborating as the North American Region.

PERIOD OF CONFIRMATION, DISCERNMENT SUPPORT AND EVALUATION

Where Does North American Region Go From Here? We will determine some concrete steps that will help develop a structure for the North American Region so that it can implement any decisions made.
